WHATSAPP GROUP RULES

As our WhatsApp Block groups have expanded, the committee have had to update our Rules and Regulations which will be acknowledged and signed by every member before they are added to the groups. We thank you again for your commitment in joining the Warner Beach South Neighbourhood Watch Group, where the aim of these WhatsApp groups is to:

Create a safe and crime free neighbourhood.

Get to know your neighbours and to look out for one another.

Share all things relevant to the safety of the community.

Share suspicious or unusual occurrences within the community.

Share relevant crime  information with the community.

These groups are an extension of WBSNW communication channels and as such, are also governed by our neighbourhood watch constitution and the mandate under which we work in conjunction with the relevant law enforcement departments. They are only open to signed up WBSNW members that agree to adhere to these Rules and Regulations. Crime related information is sensitive as it can lead to the apprehension of the criminal/s and their prosecution. Please read through the list below so that you have an idea of what can and cannot be said, shared and broadcast on these groups. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in your removal from these groups depending on the infringement. This decision will be taken by the WBSNW Admin or Executive Committee and will be final.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE

  • Content shared on these groups is for WBSNW members ONLY. Content from these groups may NOT be shared with any third party unless otherwise specified. Only Block group Admins may forward the information on to other Block groups.
  • Postings should not be after 22:00 or before 07:00 unless the security issue at hand warrants this posting and you require the assistance of the patrol officers, remember: Every registered WBSNW WhatsApp user will receive that late night/early morning posting, and should this input be regarded less relevant it may cause high levels of irritation (and eventually one’s withdrawal from the WNSNW WhatsApp circle)
  • These groups are NOT chat groups. They are in place to report suspicious behaviour / concerns / crime related information and information relevant to our area.
  • Must NOT be such as being an acknowledgement of a received posting – i.e., for example, don’t “thank” the person who posted the Eskom Load Shedding Schedule; your “thank you” will be received by all other registered WBSNW WhatsApp users. Just imagine hearing a very large number of postings coming through all with the same message of “thank you” at 22:00.
  • We reserve the right to promote and share other activities and events in our area that have positive impact on crime and grime. This includes community building events, as a strong community is the best deterrent for crime.
  • Please message Admin privately if you are asked to do so for feedback or if you have any concerns or suggestions.
  • We consider ourselves a community organisation and our aim is to uplift our area and support each other. Only constructive criticism is allowed. A respectful question to clarify a situation or a friendly, constructive suggestion will go a long way. A debate on various viewpoints should be taken up offline.
  • We are building and strengthening our relationships with SAPS, Metro, CCPO and other security service providers. We are extremely happy to have some members of SAPS on our groups. If you would like to take up matters with SAPS, please do so through our Executive Committee or directly with SAPS.
  • Absolutely no advertising will be permitted on these groups. This includes, but is not limited to: products, services, security, and NPOs unless otherwise approved by Admin.
  • No photos may be published on WhatsApp unless approved for posting by the Chairperson/Vice Chairperson and shall also not be released to the Media or other social media (POPI Act).
  • These WhatsApp groups DO NOT replace SAPS, your armed response companies, or the CCPO, as it is not an emergency channel. We would like to advise that SAPS, your armed response companies, and the CCPO be your FIRST point of call should a serious incident occurs.
